How to Ship Candy and Snacks to an APO Address (With Free Shipping Over $40)

When someone you love is stationed overseas, a taste of home can make a hard day better. A favorite candy bar, a bag of nostalgic snacks, or a box of sweets from back home can lift morale in a way few other things can.

The good news is that sending candy and snacks to an APO address is easier than most people think. Here’s how it works, what to watch out for, and how to get free shipping on orders over $40.

What Is an APO Address?

APO stands for Army Post Office. It is a mailing address used for military personnel stationed overseas. Related address types include:

APO: Army or Air Force installations
FPO: Fleet Post Office, for Navy and Marine Corps personnel and ships
DPO: Diplomatic Post Office, for U.S. diplomatic staff abroad

These addresses look like domestic U.S. addresses. Instead of a city and state, they use APO/FPO/DPO as the city and AA, AE, or AP as the “state,” followed by a ZIP code. For example:
PFC Jane Smith
Unit 1234 Box 5678
APO AE 09012

Because USPS treats these as domestic mail, shipping is often simpler and cheaper than true international delivery.

Why Candy and Snacks Make a Great Care Package

Many popular American brands are hard to find overseas, or cost far more when they are available. Service members often say the small comforts matter most:

Familiar candy and chocolate they grew up with
Salty, crunchy snacks for late shifts and long deployments
Treats to share with their unit
Seasonal favorites for holidays and birthdays

A box of snacks is also a way to say “we’re thinking of you” when you can’t be there.

Tips for Sending Candy and Snacks Overseas

Think about heat. Chocolate can melt in hot climates. If your loved one is stationed somewhere warm, favor hard candy, gummies, chewy candy, and shelf-stable snacks. Save chocolate for cooler months or locations.

Check restrictions. Some destinations have rules about certain items, such as products containing pork or alcohol. Ask your service member about local restrictions before ordering.

Expect customs paperwork. Packages to APO/FPO/DPO addresses typically need a customs declaration form, which is usually handled at shipping. Contact the carrier or www.becmart.com with any questions.
Allow extra time. Military mail can take longer than regular domestic mail depending on the location. Order early for birthdays and holidays.

Choose sturdy, sealed items. Individually wrapped candy and sealed bags hold up better during long transit.
